How to Create the Ultimate Storybook Themed Tea Party Spread

Storybook Themed Party Spread

If you’re anything like me, you aspire to be the hostess with the mostess. But that doesn’t mean having to overdo it in the kitchen. This is a “recipe” for an easy pop-up party that delivers maximum whimsy with a few key elements that save you time, money and sanity.

Here’s how we did it:

  1. We brainstormed what books my clients (my brother and sister-in-law) loved as kids and identified what foods would be associated with them. Ex. If You Give A Moose A Muffin= Muffins, Peter Rabbit> Mr. McGregor’s Garden= Veggie Tray, etc. See full list below.

  2. Create your grocery (all items needed to create the menu) and packing list (trays, knives, serving spoons/forks, tongs, drink dispensers, cups, napkins, plates, cutlery, plastic wrap, ziplock bags for taking home/offering extras). Be sure to consider guests’ dietary restrictions and accomodate accordingly.

  3. Order your ingredients on Kroger, Sam’s, or Walmart pickup to save time and ensure you have checked all of your boxes. This also helps you stay on budget instead of going rogue in the store. Will they have everything you need? Probably not, but schedule your pickup early enough that you can pickup any last minute items and not feel rushed.

  4. Make (at least) 1 homemade item. Look, I’m not the homemade police. But creating one item people can’t get anywhere else creates another layer of whimsy. Plus, it’s usually cheaper to make things homemade, but not always if you’re short on time.

    • The Rainbow Fish> Fruity Pebbles Rice Crispy Treats. Find the recipe HERE. Bonus points if you practice and/or make the recipe ahead of time instead of bringing all your tools an ingredients to make it at your Air BnB like me. But they turned out great!

5.Add place cards for each storybook food element to really drive home the theme. I can’t stress enough how much of an x factor this is. People will delight in making the connections they may miss without the cards to aide them. I have a card deck available for purchase HERE. Each place card has a suggested item on the back for easy day-of setup and to reconcile your packing list.

Additional considerations: Does the venue offer tables, if so what size? This setup requires a 4ft drink table and 6 ft food table. Do they offer linens? if so in what color? How soon can you setup at the venue?

If this sounds like your jam but you don’t have time or space to dedicate to the execution and you live in central Kentucky, we would love to create a whimsical tea party experience for you. Contact us to make it happen.
